Water features have inspired me since my very beginning. As a child, I enjoyed the sound and feel of water. Whether it came from faucet, spring, stream or river. Each gave me a different emotion.

My brothers and sisters and I spent many a summer damming up streams and creating natural pools to play in. At the age of 12, I first dreamed of building a running stream; I waited another 20 years before having the opportunity with the Anderson's home in Cool, CA. The photos below, were taken two days ago at the Moore's residence. In December, we experienced a severe freeze; the grasses were set back a bit but will rebound as nature works it's magic.
The large waterfall is from a natural rock located in the Moore's front yard. The stone outcropping is over 5 feet tall and the waterfall flow is controlled by a gate valve. The waterfall and the stream operate 24 hours a day year round.

Simple streams like this, was one of my first to install using a liner, rocks for waterfalls and cobble along with sand for the stream. A good design of plants takes away from the fake look and adds a natural character.

Another idea for a water feature, would be a non circulating Bamboo dripper as shown in the garden at the Creek's residence. The goal here was to have the sound of water hit the indentation of the stone at infrequent times. The water was connected to the landscape mainline and a gate valve was installed to adjust water flow.

My Cabinet man (The Cabinet Doctor) had me create a Bonsai retreat for his back yard and new spa in Auburn, California. A note that these rocks were made my me not bought.

My Mobile phone reps, Bob and Barbara Ellis, in North Natomas, Sacramento, asked for a relaxing
outdoor area.
These are photos of a small back yard with an oriental flair in North Natomas, CA which is near the capital of Sacramento.

My sister Heidi, wrote a nice poem about one of my streams. I hope you will enjoy this.
"A Hand hewn Stream"
A hand hewn stream
of earth and stone--eons' gold
sand sized glints of long ago
when mountains formed
before the weathering
before the crumbling
I am stone
and earth
and sand
fragmented by time
yet not erased
Renewal, restoration
This humble place
gives back what's lost
in crowds
in sorrow and doubt
Quietude from silken flows
that circle back and fall anew
Music from the splash on rocks
and birds that seek the cool recess
Strength for roots that seek the pool
Peace for resting by its banks
Find me by the living stream
created from a kindred dream.
